Humanize Me . . .
To this point, we have created a persona, marketed to that persona (archetypes), branded that persona (economy), and run that persona as a political candidate (politics). Now, we are going to make that persona a human (a soul = social, psychological, physical) — only we won’t make him human as much as discover how/why we become human.
Human Aspirations: Part I (Research/Work-Over)

On Being Human: Part II (Major Paper)
Finished Product: Due End of Finals Period
Purpose:
To evaluate the different strategies and research you used for the Straw Man Project
Assignment: Major Paper #2
This final paper will examine the difference between advertising, branding, marketing and creating (artistic and literary ventures). Being a Major Paper, you will write a 5-page (minimum) Classical Argument using personal response, past research, and your own written/visual work to answer the following prompt:
Plato argued that civilized city-states should “kick out all the poets” for fear that creative expression becomes only lies people trust. By looking at everything we have seen this semester, it is as if you have stepped out of the cave. Now, after having examined political, commercial, and literary texts, which one of these is the most honest reflection of reality and which do you trust the most?
Paper Pre-Write: Before you write the paper . . .
Your primary goal should be to show the difference between the motivations of commercialism versus the motivations of the creative spirit. Before you write the paper, then, write a reflective, OCI Paragraph in response to the TOPICAL QUESTIONS BELOW (to be handed in). These will be the first draft of your paper.
After writing the paragraphs, revise your answers using outside sources (material we have used in class) and make sure you can defend your editorial decisions according to the EWP Writing Outcomes. Answering these questions will also help you address the proper issues in your paper.
After you have written the final paper, WRITE A PORTFOLIO LETTER explaining the differences between your first and second drafts. Within the letter, you should examine
Editorial changes you made
How each UW Outcome is reflected in your final paper
Which paper is better, and why (using EWP Outcome Language)
The difference between Academic (1st Semester) and Commercial (2nd Semester) writing (Which you prefer and why . . .)
